Oil Change Prices in 2026: What Every Major Chain Actually Charges
Standard 5-quart service, before tax. Bigger engines (many trucks/SUVs) take 6–8 quarts and pay $10–$25 more.

Walmart Auto Care Center
The national anchor — every other chain's "deal" should be measured against these published numbers. Trade-off: longer waits, basic service, no inspection.
Take 5 Oil Change
Drive-through, stay-in-car format; usually the cheapest quick-lube full synthetic.
Midas
Valvoline Instant Oil Change
Firestone Complete Auto Care
Jiffy Lube
NTB (National Tire & Battery)
Sister brand to Mavis. The $24.99 Valvoline conventional is the lowest published conventional anchor in the category — undercutting even Walmart — but the $95.99 full synthetic sits near the top.
Grease Monkey
Independently owned franchises set their own rates, so the same service runs ~$50 in Baton Rouge and ~$89–$99 in Denver. Ranges bracket the spread.
Meineke Car Care
Full-service shop — like Midas and Firestone, the oil change is a door-opener; expect inspection-driven upsells.
Goodyear Auto Service
Uses Valvoline oil; pricing varies by store and quote, so ranges reflect the observed spread rather than a fixed menu. Stacked coupons plus rebate can beat the quick-lube chains.
Pep Boys
Publishes prices openly, which is honest, but at $45 conventional and $100 full synthetic you are paying a premium over every other chain on this page. Worth it only for the fuller shop services.
The four things worth knowing before any oil change
- Walmart's $58.88 full synthetic is the national benchmark. Measure every "deal" against it. For conventional, NTB's published $24.99 Valvoline change is the lowest anchor of all eleven chains here.
- Half these chains hide their menus on purpose. Undated "price lists" you find online for Jiffy Lube or Firestone are usually fabricated. Ours show observation dates.
- Menu price is fiction where coupons are permanent (Valvoline, Firestone). Check the coupon page in the parking lot if you have to.
- "Up to 5 quarts" is doing heavy lifting. Many trucks and SUVs take 6–8 quarts — budget $10–$25 over the advertised number.
